Energy
The term "wastewater" is actually misleading. We do not see water as waste but as a resource to produce clean water and climate-neutral electricity and heat, among other things.
BlueKolding is constantly exploring new opportunities to utilize the energy in the wastewater. This applies both when we transport it through the more than 2,200 km of sewer lines under Kolding Municipality and when we purify it at our five treatment plants throughout the municipality.
We already utilize the excess heat in the wastewater to heat 153 youth apartments in Design City, our own office and crew building, and benches at the bus terminal. We utilize the energy from the running water to generate electricity for Kolding’s houses. We extract electricity and excess heat from the treatment plant’s processes to operate the facility, and we utilize the sludge left over from the water treatment to produce both electricity, heat, and fertilizer. In a world where nothing should go to waste, we also make use of our surplus areas and rooftops for solar panels.
